Details:

Belle began his first migration south on 16 October 2010. He finally arrived down at the Samuel Reservoir 58 days later on 12 Dec. For the next few months, he wandered all over the place, as is typical with young birds on their first trip south. He first visited the spot near the Madeira River that would become his winter home for the rest of his life in mid-March of 2011. He wandered a bit more after that, testing out a location up river for a couple of months, but after July of 2011 he was pretty much anchored to a small area in the Jacunda National Forest. In all his subsequent winters he spent five months mostly at Lagoa Grande (Big Lake) and the southern bank of the Rio Madeira, as seen in the Google Earth image here.

Zoom in on this part of the map to follow him as he explores his new wintering area.

After his "Gap Year" in South America (18 months or so) Belle headed north for the first time on 12 April 2012. He arrived in New England 37 days later, on 19 May.
